COLLABORATION

The history of the Military Institute of Armament Technology dates back to March 25, 1926, when the Ministry of Military Affairs of the Republic of Poland formally established the Artillery Research Institute.

Until the outbreak of World War II, the Institute served as a center for analysis, study, and research in the field of armaments, focusing primarily on the study of weapons and ammunition systems and the modernization of equipment left behind by the Allied and occupying armies from World War I. Before World War II, more than 200 types of weapons and ammunition were adapted, put into service, and modernized, and more than 100 new solutions were developed.

In the 1990s, the Institute underwent a series of structural changes to better adapt to an increasingly competitive market. The integration of the Polish Armed Forces into NATO’s military structures brought new challenges, which the Institute successfully met. Systems for weapons certification and quality assurance in research, in accordance with European standards, were implemented. Five research laboratories have been accredited by the Polish Center for Accreditation, and the Institute is authorized to issue certificates for over 150 products.

The Institute provides scientific support for the military, which is part of NATO. Its primary goal is to maintain the highest level of expertise in fields that determine the technological level of weapons systems and equipment for the Armed Forces, which, for reasons of prestige and economic efficiency, should be manufactured domestically.
